SigEp began as the brainchild of Brother Carter Ashton Jenkens at Richmond College (now Richmond University) in Richmond, Virginia. He, along with 11 other men he had befriended, wanted to strengthen the bonds of their friendship, and decided to found a fraternity to cement their ties to one another.
